Selecting an International Volunteer Project

Spending time as a volunteer overseas is a big commitment, but it can be one of the most rewarding and life-changing things you will ever do. We understand how choosing a project or even a country can be overwhelming, but rest assured that we will help you choose one that is best fit for your unique strengths and talents. We will work with you every step of the way to make the process as simple as possible.

Gaining the trust in a community stricken with poverty is difficult. In our experience it is crucial to join the community in serving every day issues not just put a band aid on the problem. With the help of meaningful volunteers we are able to do just this; join the community to address every day immediate needs, understand and access the issues, culture and resources, seek and offer sustainable realistic solutions.

With well researched projects, great communication on the ground and experienced In Country coordinators we understand our International volunteer projects which makes it easy to help you choose a project where the community you’re volunteering with will benefit as much as possible and sharing your unique skills, talents and hobbies will maximize your impact.

Before deciding a specific project, here are some things to think about.

Write down questions you have about volunteering and ask us! Be prepared to learn and embrace new approaches.

Where do you want to volunteer?

When thinking about this consider the time of year, what the weather will be like, is there somewhere you have always wanted to go? If you’re open to going wherever you’re needed, that’s great, too!

How long can you go?

Our projects are available for 1 to 12 weeks. The average volunteer time is generally 1or 2 to 3 weeks but often we do have a volunteer that wants to really live the life and stays for 3 months. Either way there is no time to short to make an impact. Whether you decide to volunteer for one week or one month or more, there are projects needing your help.

Define your Goals and Expectations for Volunteering Abroad.

Make a list of your skills and experiences – and don’t discount the small stuff. Are you great with mentoring, children, computers, sewing or fixing things? Are you trained in the medical field or have a green thumb? Having a clear sense of what you’re good at and what you’d like to learn is invaluable in helping you to make the most of a volunteer placement. Have you coached athletics or taught music before? Do you have a hobby or special skill like teaching music or painting a mural you hope to share? Does teaching basic simple English or a women’s empowerment program appeal to you?

Let us know and we can match you with a project! Our projects are not limited to what you see in our website we are always open to customize a project for you!

Thinking about these things and writing down your questions will give us both a jump start in your selection process. There is a project for everyone let’s find yours!
